At my mentorship, I have a very repetitive
and usual routine. When I get there, I just say hello to everybody, and I settle
into my chair and “station”. A usual day consists of me taking some vitals with
the various nurses when patients are seen, helping with treatments and
procedures, and cleaning around and restocking. I try my best to get to know
everybody that I come into contact with, and I always strive to be an asset and
aid to the nurses and physicians. In general, I have absolutely loved and
enjoyed my time with the Guilford Immediate Care Clinic. Specifically, over the
last month, I have learned to set up breathing treatments and give them to
patients. I have even had the opportunity to do this treatment by myself twice!
I have also learned how to input information into the x-ray computer for
patients, and I have aided nurses in all types of x-ray procedures.
One of my favorite and most helpful
classes for this mentorship has been my honors biology class. In that class, I
had a very hands-on experience, and I learned a basic understanding of the
human body and its systems. Although I am not as educated as a nurse or a
physician in the medical field, I did learn enough from that class to help me
understand what the nurses and doctors talk about and what they mean in certain
situations. At the end of the year, I did well in that class, and I believe and
hope that at the end of this year, I will do very well in my mentorship!
