10/19/15 Assignment

I have participated in my internship for a little more than a month now, and I can honestly say that my perception has not changed much. As a student seeking to be a Surgical Physician, I am taking the first step by interning with several nurses, and I get to experience what their day is like. At first, I expected to constantly be moving and seeing patients, but I was slightly wrong. In the mornings, it is busier, and we are consistently treating patients, but once I am done with one patient, we must take time to upload information from charts to the computer system, and we must give the physician time to see every single patient! After the busier, morning hours, there is a period of slowness around lunchtime. During this time, we catch up on uploading information from charts, and we too eat lunch.
What came as a surprise to me was the friendly and relaxed environment between the nurses, doctors, receptionists, and all workers. It is obvious that we must all work together in order to finish our tasks in a professional and timely manner, but it was nice to see that in our busy hours, the nurses all helped each other in whatever way we could. The physicians would also do their part to see patients and treat them as soon as possible. And in our slower hours, it was a surprise to see that all the employees would eat and talk in friendly tones. And although there is a regular routine of seeing patients, treating patients, and releasing patients, I have found that there is no real boringness in my internship. I always have the opportunity to help the nurses with patients, and I always see nurses uploading information. And even if we happen to have an extremely slow day, one can always count on seeing that one “interesting” patient.
